Nuli! Nuli! Project: Wushu Logo Design Evolution

Developing the logo in Inkscape, using san serif fonts according to client preferences. (Futura Myriad or Blackout)
Turns out all caps Blackout provides the best symmetry.
Decided green & orange color combination provides the contrast and fits the WUSHU - Work Hard charge...as opposed to pink/green for instance.
Added slight gradient to text.

Nuli! Nuli! Project: Wushu Icon Evolution

Overlayed in black to create sillohette.

Imported into Inkscape to create vec tor image. Figure changed from object t path in order to clean up outline. Combination of shape tools used to add a pony tail to the "bare" looking head.
Decided a more angular figure would match the angular bold typeface. Made adjustments paths and nodes in Inkscape.

Brainstorming ENP logo: Playing with Inkscape Tiled Clones

I was looking for a plain vector black arrow when I came across this arrow collage. Still inspired by the two main visual concepts of "people" and "arrow" to represent a slogan "Moving Forward and Up Together" as well as the stock photo below I thought of doing a collage of people in the shape of an arrow. Remembering an Inkscape tutorial, I used Tiled Clones and perspective to attempt the idea. The original tiling of people had to much uneven "negative" space which I couldn't figure out how to resolve with the Tiled Clone settings so I ended up having to hand tweek the placement of each clone.

Although I think my final graphic is a decent design, I don't think it functions well as a logo. Its too complex to translate to an avatar and may not show up well printed, etc. But at least I finally had a chance to test Inkscape cloning technique. My "people arrow" might be great graphic elsewhere.

Natural Solutions: Second Design Solution with new graphics for artwork

As I explained in previous post, I have render a layered vector image almost exactly the same as the original artwork from which I could select and re-size any element of the drawing. I decided to select just the "flowing hair lady silhouette" and re-size it...

I also created a new version of the florets which has more detail and dimension than the original...

I put various sizes of the florets with the resized lady to recreate the artwork for the web page. I also intend to use the florets as a continuing motif in the design: as part decoration, navigaton & rollovers;

This is still a preliminary rendering of the second design solution. Once more of the content has been established, I will determine the layout and arrangement of flourishes. I may also add the background orange "waves" like the original once the other elements have been established. Must choose font and style the text for site name, etc. Plan to adjust the dimensions and fix the browser display dimensions to display the artwork-header to fit the entire browser window.

Natural Solution's poor quality jpeg artwork to a clean vector image

Original image submitted by client has jpeg artifacts.

My first attempt at improvement was to smooth out the artifacts with photoshop brush.

I finally, decided to import the image into Inkscape and trace it creating a clean new layered SVG file that I can resize...

...as well as select the specific elements from its layers.

Creating "designables" to customize web template

In continuity with the new banner, I provided other "designables" such as this page heading to customize site template. And some graphic containers to highlight specific content.

Designables is my terminology for the graphic elements that can be used to economically customize a basic web template. I inserted the graphic containers as background images in place of just using a teal background color.

Inkscape Mask Disguises Poor Image Quality

I am helping small church provide customize the template they are using for their first website. So they may have a visually unique website without incurring web hosting fees. Unfortunately they don't have a logo or any web quality images. The only they provide for the church is this scanned copy of the poorlly printed church bulletin. I decided to use graphic effects to disguise the terrible quality of the image. Inkscape to the rescue!  I used Inkscape to create a mask from the original that I can use as a background image for the Welcome Page

Sunny Circles | Weebly Contest Theme Design

Realized deadline for contest submissions is not until 11:59 tonight, instead of last night. So I cramked out a few more themes in between apointments today. I really like this one. Makes me hungry. Colors good for a restaurant. I was thinking about the Natural Hair Salon. Used my custom brushes I made in Inkscape. Thinking about my nicknames "Peaches" & "Palemino"

Inkscape design reproduced in Photoshop

Inkscape Version

Reproduced in Photoshop with same layers used in Inkscape. Had to redo leaf decoration on a transparent background. Open it in PS and copy it to its layer in the PS design. Before I changed the gradient stops, they were identical.

Weebly design contest with $13,000 in prizes!

Decided to go for the Weebly design contest with $13,000 in prizes! It will give me something to focus on as I test out Photoshop. I haven't touched Photoshop in forever, so although its crammed woth state of the art features its way complicated for this newb. I have this template idea I designed in Inkscape (vector) that I will reproduce in Photoshop.

cut-out & shadow for stencil text effect

I  was very pleased with the prism effect on the circular geometric Digitica font. It is reminiscent of my SHAPE concept. It suggests a grid and a color wheel the basic tools for designer. Digitica even sounds like digidesign one the unavailable domain names I thought of. Now I needed to give the 2 dimensional prototype some dimension. In keeping with the tools of creativity, I thought I use a cut-out technique I'd seen on screencasters.heathenx.org to create look of a stencil. I followed the same steps pretty much except my black cutout gives the look of a prism light casting a shadow behind a grid.

Now the simplicity of the san serif 'Raleway' font looks quite appropriate to addition for the slogan that wont compete or conflict with the dominant Digitica text. So far so good.
